Custom shaders on WP8

Mar 10, 2013 at 1:04 PM
I've been playing with both the 3D Starter Kit, and DXTK.

In the starter kit, I can create a new shader with the shader designer, then export the HLSL, then apply it to my FBX in the VS model viewer.
However the same process doesn't work in DXTK. I can change the texture within the model viewer, but it seems to totally ignore what shader I set it to.

As far as I know, WP8 doesn't support the DGSL shaders, thats why you have to export it so it has the HLSL to fall back on.

So how do I make a custom shader for my models in DXTK?

DirectXTK's default EffectFactory always returns BasicEffect shaders, which ignores the pixel shader setup in the CMO. You can provide your own custom EffectFactory to provide other kinds of shaders.

This is related to the open work item 894 if you want to up vote it.

Thanks, I've upvoted.
Are there any examples of using EffectFactory to load up a custom shader? Seems to be very little info on it.

We don't have any samples customizing EffectFactory that way yet. It's on my list to blog about whenever I get some spare time :-)
