SpriteBatch - Scale

When trying to calc. scale, I'm dividing the "wanted" size of the sprite (let's say 500x500) by the actual size of the texture (let's say 1000x1000), getting 0.5x0.5. I would think this would draw the texture at half it's size, but that doesn't seem to be the case (the sizing seems to be exponential or something). Am i misunderstanding what the scale is? What should I do instead to calc the scale?

The scale parameter works in a simple linear way. Are you perhaps applying some other kind of scaling in addition to this parameter, eg. perhaps via the transform matrix?
